Man in Motion

An athlete. A family man. A survivor. An inspiration.

Rick Hansen may have lost the use of his legs in an accident at the age of 15, but it didn’t stop him from rolling his way around the world back in 1985, touching the hearts of millions.

An advocate for accessibility, spinal cord research, and a Paralympic gold medalist, Hansen has inspired Canadians in his quest to prove that anything is possible.

Now, 25 years after his first Man in Motion world tour, Hansen is on the road again. Only this time, he has recruited volunteers to run, walk or roll on his behalf.

The relayers range from Paralympic athletes to people who ran alongside Hansen on his first tour. Together they’re passing a large silver medal commissioned from the Royal Canadian Mint across the country. It features an imprint of one of the gloves Hansen used 25 years ago.
