Graphic memories

The Lord’s Resistance Army terrorized northern Uganda for two decades, abducting more than 30,000 children to fuel its rebellion against the government of President Yoweri Museveni. Girls as young as six were forced to kill, to loot, and to become bush wives. But even when a conflict ends, war is only half the story.

Photojournalist Marc Ellison and illustrator Christian Mafigiri tell the stories of four female ex-combatants in an interactive graphic novel format, documenting their struggle to rebuild lives forever fractured by war.
